DIY Football Party Astroturf Bunting // Legal Miss Sunshine

I’m a huge hockey fan, but many of my friends are football fans and whenever I ask my friends if they’re free to do something on Sunday, the answer is always “No, I gotta watch the game!” So I decided if I want to see them, I’ll have to join them and what better way than to throw a party? So I made this DIY Football Yard Line Party Garland basically to get my friends and family together so I could see them!

It’s a pretty simple DIY to make, I’ll go through the steps below, but I’ve also included a full printable tutorial at the very end. But first, you’re going to need a few supplies.

Supplies:

Please don’t use your fabric or kitchen scissors for this craft. Astroturf is nasty stuff and you don’t want to mess up your nice scissors.

You can purchase astroturf at most home improvement stores for about $10-15 for 5-6 feet which is plenty of astroturf and then you can use the leftover to make coasters, drink cozies, or a table runner.

Don’t want to bother with astroturf? Try making these using some large green dish scrub pads! The size will be a different from what I made, so you’ll just have to play around with it a bit.

DIY Football Yard Line Party Garland Tutorial:

First, cut the astroturf into large triangle flags using your ruler, marker, and scissors. Mine were 7″ across at the top and 10″ long down each side.

Next, use the stencils, spray paint, and scrap paper (I used magazines and catalogs) to paint white stripes and numbers onto the triangles. I used old magazine pages to block off both sides of the triangle so I could paint the white stripe down the middle. Once the white stripe had dried I used other (clean) magazine pages to block off all around the number stencils so I could spray paint the numbers on either side of the line.

Use a hole punch to punch holes into the upper corners of your triangle flags and thread some twine through the holes.

Hang your astroturf football bunting garland over your party table and enjoy the game!

[…] 3.5.3208 I have to say, I made these for lunch the other day and the Mister came back for seconds and then thirds! They were a bit spicy for him, so he tried to cool off his mouth using some chips and the chipotle avocado dip … not knowing that the dip was spicy as well! Oops! I picked up my spicy ingredients, the La Morena products, at Food 4 Less near the salsa. What are you doing to celebrate the Big Game?
