Woohoo!! Another year! I cannot believe how fast they are flying by! 2014 really got away from me. I was overwhelmed, scrambling before deadlines, and disappointed I didn’t achieve or finish things I wanted to do. I didn’t stick to a schedule, lose weight, save money, or grow my business. But that is all going to change this year. Below are my 2015 resolutions, and I know you probably don’t care, but I’m going to share anyway. It’ll keep me accountable. And who knows, you might learn something, or be able to teach me something
1. Get Healthy
I think I’ve had this same resolution for 3 years running. But I’m determined to make this one happen. This isn’t so much a resolution as it is a lifestyle change. I need to exercise more, and more importantly, I need to change my eating habits. No more pizza. No more cheeseburgers. No more donuts. No more big breakfasts. No more soda. More salads, healthy veggies, and water. It’s going to suck. I’m not going to deprive myself, of course I will have cheat days, but they will be limited to bi-weekly occasions and special events. And I’m not trying to get down to a certain number on the scale or a certain dress size, but rather I just want to be healthy because the Mister and I are thinking of starting a family soon (not yet, Mom!) and I want it to be a healthy pregnancy and I want to be able to exercise during the pregnancy, so I need to start now.
But my goal isn’t just about weight lose, I need to take better care of myself. I need to start going to bed earlier (oops, already breaking this one since I’m writing this at 3am), I need to visit the doctor more regularly for preventative care, I need to visit the dentist for cleanings and remember to “floss the teeth I want to keep.” I need to remember to get a flu shot, take my vitamins, and wash my hands like a crazy person at theme parks. And I need to schedule some downtime.2. Get Shit Done
I have too much stuff. My closets are overflowing, my garage is overflowing, I feel like I can’t ever find anything. I need to clear out the crap and organize what remains. I have a to do list that reads like a novel. So I’ve started putting the to do list into an Excel doc, that way I can organize the shit I need to do by priority and I can include notes on my progress, a shopping list, or if I’m waiting on someone/something. Instead of a “To Do List”, I’m calling it a “Production Schedule.” These are not things I need to do or should do, but rather they are scheduled. I’ll update the schedule throughout the week and print it out so I have something tangible to cross off. My schedule includes things such as sell furniture, paint furniture, finish wedding album, frame pictures and photos, make a will, get life insurance, clean out the closets, etc. I’ll be starting a newsletter and blog series called 52 Things in which I post about crossing 1 thing off my Production Schedule each week for the 52 weeks of the year. The newsletters will go out on Sundays with the blog post going up the following week. Follow along if you have an ever growing to do list, need to put together an emergency kit, need to organize your photos on your computer, or need a reminder to get ready for Christmas.3. Be More Productive
I realize this kind of relates to Resolution #2: Get Shit Done, but this is more the how than the what. I need to go to bed earlier and get up earlier. I need to plan my schedule a week in advance as well as each night and stick to it. I need to create a morning routine and do it. I need to “eat my frogs” and do those things that I don’t want to do first thing every day (Hello, exercise!). I need to work more during “work hours” and schedule my downtime so I have things I can look forward to. I need to say “No” more and say “Yes” less.
4. Save money
I really need to work on my spending habits this year. I’m working on paying off my law school loans, and I really want to pay off a big chunk at the end of the year. And, going along with Resolution #2, I have too much stuff and I need to get rid of it, so that means I need to stop bringing more crap into the house. I need to do more mindful shopping, schedule some spending freezes, and establish a couple savings accounts with set goals so I can see the money grow. Basically, I need to ask myself, “Do you really need that?”, I need to stop passing by the women’s clothing and holiday sections at Target, and I need to delete my eBay app.
5. Grow my businesses
And last, but not least, I want to grow my businesses this year. I wanted to do this last year, but the year really got away from me and I just never started. Maybe because I was scared of starting a new business, maybe because I was saying yes to too many other things, I don’t know the reason. But I know I’m not going to let that happen again this year. In case you don’t know, I’ve opened my event planning and styling business, The Party Task Force. I’ll be doing weddings, baby showers, birthday parties, etc. and I’ve already got my first clients for 2015! If you live in the Los Angeles area and you need help planning or styling your event, give me a call!
And my two Etsy shops are still going strong. I sell curated vintage paper and finds at Legal Miss Sunshine and heirloom wedding pieces and custom table numbers at Legal Miss Sunshine Wedding. Check ‘em out!
And I thought I might share some of the things that will be helping me keep my resolutions:
- Way of Life App – for habit building
- Pacer App – pedometer. I’m working my way up to 10k steps a day.
- Water Minder App – track your water intake
- Lose It App – calorie tracker
- Emily Ley Simple Planner – sold out, but get on the list for April’s edition.
- Powersheets – 6 months of goal worksheets
- Apartment Therapy’s January Cure – a one month deep cleaning/purging for your home.
I’ve shared my resolutions with you, what are your resolutions? Any good tips for me to keep me on track? Let me know in the comments!
