Spring is right around the corner and with it comes all the usual spring celebrations: bridal showers, baby showers, Easter, and Mother’s Day as well as casual weekend brunches or, once the weather warms up again, backyard barbeques! And for any, and all, of those get-togethers, I partnered with Day Owl Rosé to make the perfect cocktail for you: Strawberry Basil Lemonade Sangria! This is such a “spring” cocktail with the pink coloring, the lemons, and the strawberries which makes it great for weekend brunches and showers, but it can also work for summer with the basil and lemonade making it great for summer get-togethers and backyard barbeques!
Sangria is usually made with a red or white wine, an additional spirit such as rum, fruit, and a bit of added sugar. However, I wanted to make a pretty, pink drink, so I used a rosé, swapped out the rum for vodka (because honestly, I just don’t like rum), and skipped the added sugar because the fruits I used were sweet enough. I used an entire bottle of Day Owl Rosé for my sangria recipe because it is a crisp, fruit-forward California rosé with a dry, elegant finish and I like my wines crisp, fruity, and dry!The primary varietal within the Day Owl Rosé is Barbera, an Italian varietal with dark cherry, dried strawberry, plum, lavender, and vanilla undertones. It’s a varietal that is meant to be enjoyed young (aka now), so don’t buy the bottle and save it for a special occasion. Any occasion when you’re drinking wine is special, so invite some friends over, make some Hash Brown Breakfast Nachos or Savory Chicken and Waffle Sliders, whip up a batch of this Strawberry Basil Lemonade Sangria, and enjoy the day!
