Savory Chicken and Waffle Sliders
If you caught my Southern-Style Spring Brunch Iced Tea Party, then you saw my savory Chicken and Waffle Sliders made on savory homemade waffles. Served alongside some Sweet Peach and Coconut Grits and some Iced Tea, these chicken and waffle sliders would be great for a small brunch party such as Mother’s Day, a bridal shower, or a baby shower!
I love switching up and using savory waffles rather than the traditionally sweet waffles for these sliders. And when topped with the crispy bacon and blue cheese, these chicken and waffle sliders are loaded with flavor!
The full, printable recipe is below, but here are the ingredients and a few tips:
Ingredients for the Homemade Savory Waffles:
- Baking powder
- Red bell pepper
- Pickled jalapeño
Ingredients for Assembling the Chicken and Waffle Sliders:
- Savory waffles
- Fresh or frozen fried or breaded chicken
- Blue cheese crumbles
- Fresh rosemary
- Maple syrup
You can make your own fried chicken or simply heat up frozen chicken for the sliders. There is absolutely no shame in using frozen or store-bought when working with time constraints such as prepping for a party. I used frozen fried chicken since I made the savory waffles from scratch.
I tried making the waffles as tiny round waffles using my waffle maker, but that was taking WAY too long, so I just made large whole waffles and then cut them into the triangular quarters to use for the sliders.
While you’re making your waffles, pop each finished waffle right onto the rack into a warm oven set at 350-degrees to keep the waffles warm and crisp.
Once you’ve finished cooking all the waffles, assemble your chicken and waffle sliders. Simply slice the waffles into quarters, assemble the sandwiches with your fried chicken, add a slice of crispy bacon atop the chicken, sprinkle some blue cheese crumbles on top, and add a drizzle of maple syrup!
