A few years ago, the Mister and I looked at our DVDs sitting on the shelves in our living room and decided to give them a fun makeover. We loved how pretty our collection of vintage and antique books looked sitting on the opposite shelves grouped in rainbow colors, but the DVDs just looked … disorganized and ugly. So the Mister used his Photoshop skills and made me some Penguin Book DVD Covers. We loved how vintage Penguin books came in an assortedment of colors for different book genres and how we could mimic the different genre colors for our movies such as pink for chick flicks or red for horror. I’m not going to lie to you, they take a bit of time to create with changing out the title and the director or main actor on both the front and the spine and then there’s the blurb on the back to write. And, they are a bit of an investment with the printing costs and we also purchased some blank DVD covers for some DVDs whose boxes just didn’t fit the size/mold, but when the project was finished, it was worth it! We’ve since moved into a different house and all of our DVDs are on shelves in the upstairs den and I absolutely LOVE how organized and pretty they look! I mean, hardly anyone will ever see them, but it’s worth it just for me when I look at the shelves!

Our different catagories are as follows, but remember, you can make your own and you can even change the Photoshop files to different colors.
Red is for Horror, Orange is for Sci-Fi and Action, Yellow is a catch-all category like for Dramedys or Concerts, Light Blue is Comedy, Turquoise is Family, Purple is Drama, and Pink is for Chick Flicks. If you decide to take on this project, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send me a photo of your colorful DVDs sitting pretty on their shelves! My husband and I would LOVE to see it!

This is so cute!! Such an incredibly creative idea!! I have a pretty big DVD collection, so I doubt I would do all of them, but some of my frequent watchers that end up sitting on top of the Blu-ray player, this may be just the thing to do with them!
