There’s something deeply satisfying about making your own body care, especially when it smells like a citrus grove and looks like a whipped dessert! This DIY Grapefruit Sugar Scrub is bright, minty, lightly pink, and leaves your skin unbelievably soft. It’s the kind of project that feels both practical and indulgent, and it comes together in under 20 minutes. Bonus: it makes a beautiful homemade gift if you can bear to part with it.
Homemade Whipped Grapefruit Mint Sugar Scrub
I couldn’t believe how easy it was to make this sugar scrub, or how amazing it is to USE a sugar scrub! Luckily this recipe makes enough sugar scrub to fill two small mason jars and half of a third so you can gift two and keep the half to use on yourself! If you’ve never used a sugar scrub before (and I hadn’t), trust me when I say go buy some grapefruit and coconut oil and whip this up in your kitchen tonight! Your skin will thank me!
Ready to make your sugar scrub? You’ll need a few ingredients:
- 1 cup coconut oil
- zest of 1 grapefruit
- 4 Tbsp grapefruit juice
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 drops tea tree oil (a little goes a LONG way, go easy)
- 10-12 drops mint oil
- 1 tsp beet juice
- optional: 10-12 drops grapefruit oil for a stronger scent
Step 1: Make the Beet Juice Tint
Start by chopping your beet and adding it to a small saucepan with ¼ cup water.
Let it simmer gently over low heat for a few minutes, just enough time to coax out a rosy pink juice. You’re not making soup here, just stealing a little color!
Set it aside to cool slightly. You’ll only need one teaspoon, but it makes all the difference.
Step 2: Whip the Base
While your beet juice does its thing, add the coconut oil and sugar to your stand mixer.
Using the paddle attachment, mix until everything is well combined and starts to look fluffy and dreamy- like the beginnings of frosting (but please don’t eat it).
Step 3: Add the Zest & Sparkle
Now for the fun part. Add the grapefruit zest, grapefruit juice, tea tree oil, mint oil, the optional grapefruit oil, and 1 teaspoon of beet juice.
And, let it whip! Keep mixing until the scrub is light, creamy, and evenly tinted with a soft pink glow.
Step 4: Jar It Up
Spoon your scrub into clean jars and pop the lids on! Then all you need to do is add a ribbon and a gift tag and you’ve got a quick homemade gift ready for giving! It’s okay to feel proud – this stuff looks good!
You can swap out the mint essential oil for eucalyptus or tea tree oil. You can also add in additional grapefruit oil for a stronger grapefruit smell.
Storage & Use
Keep your scrub refrigerated between uses. Scoop out a small amount in the shower, massage onto damp skin in gentle circles, rinse, and prepare to be impressed by how soft everything feels.
This grapefruit sugar scrub is proof that self-care doesn’t have to be complicated to feel special. Sometimes all it takes is a mixer, a citrus fruit, and a splash of pink to make an ordinary day feel brighter.
