My hotel stay in Portland was sponsored by Embassy Suites by Hilton, but all opinions are 100% mine alone.
A few weeks ago, the Mister and I went up to Portland so I could attend the Hello Sessions creative conference and see some of my blogging friends in real life! We also took a drive up to Seattle to visit with some old friends, then drove back down to Portland via Cannon Beach and stayed in Portland for a few days to explore the city as well as some of the outdoor adventures Portland has to offer like Multnomah Falls! We flew into PDX bright and early and I schooled the Mister on the infamous airport carpet before we caught a cab and headed into downtown Portland. We went straight to our hotel, the Embassy Suites by Hilton and we were lucky to get an early check-in!
The suite was HUGE! I don’t know what I as expecting, I mean, it’s called Embassy SUITES, so of course there is going to be a bedroom and a separate living room!
We were so spoiled with all the space! Plus, the bed was super comfy!
Since I needed to get some work done, we signed up for the free Hilton Honors membership program in order to get free wi-fi in the hotel room.
And by lunch time, we were starving, and the front desk was happy to recommend a few pizza places nearby. We decided on Old Town Pizza which we were able to walk to. After an early morning flight, it was exactly what we were looking for – homemade pizza in a homey setting.
After lunch, I did a bit more work and then the Mister and I went our separate ways for a bit. I had a party for the Hello Sessions creative conference and the Mister explored some Portland nightlife. (Not all the gentlemen’s club, he went to a tiki bar!)
But after the conference, we made sure to explore Powell’s Books together! Well, we were forced to explore it together. Ken’s phone was out of battery and the store is way too big to split up. I might have lost him forever! I mean, the place gives out maps! And everyday we had a Voodoo Doughnut together since the shop was within walking distance of the Embassy Suites!
But after a few days of exploring Portland, I think I can sum it up as follows: lots of books, lots of bridges, some great old buildings, gorgeous waterfalls, lots of homeless, great coffee, awesome donuts, so many delicious food carts, great pizza, and one museum of vacuums!
Ok, now about that Vacuum Museum … everything about it sucked! Ha! I’m sorry! I just can’t help myself when it comes to puns! Seriously though, what a wacky place! Starks Vacuums has a corner of its shop dedicated to being a Vacuum Museum and the Mister and I decided to check it out! It’s not within walking distance of downtown, so I say only stop by if you have a rental car.
We had such an awesome time! I loved seeing my old friends and making new friends at the Hello Sessions Blog Conference. We had a great time driving back from Seattle and stopping at Cannon Beach for lunch and seeing Haystack Rock. We LOVED eating Voodoo Doughnuts everyday! And we had a great day hiking and exploring the outskirts of Portland and Multnomah Falls! I wish we had had more time exploring the city – Powell’s is huge, there is SO much great food, plus I really want to explore more of the outer neighborhoods and do some shopping!
So, Portland, we will be back! (But don’t worry, we aren’t moving there and we’ll be staying at the Embassy Suites by Hilton!)
