I LOVE Thanksgiving! It is one of my favorite holidays! I love planning the food, getting up early to cook everything, planning the theme, decorating the table, gathering with friends and family, etc. I have a small family, so we invite friends over who don’t go home for the holiday or don’t have anywhere to go. It’s full of tradition, and I love it!
While I don’t love cleaning the house before hand, I always make sure it is spotless! When I clean the house for Thanksgiving, I like to make sure I clean and dust EVERYTHING because the next day I’m breaking out the Christmas decorations and I only like to decorate a clean house.
Additionally, on Thanksgiving guests will be in your living room, your dining room, your bathrooms, and your kitchen, so I have to clean the entire house. Luckily, I consider myself to be an expert kitchen cleaner now. I only do it about twice a day! And luckily for me, I have a husband who cleans the bathroom for me, because he knows how much I hate to do it.
Here are four of my Thanksgiving Prep cleaning and decorating tips and tricks:
2. Plan your Thanksgiving Table. This year, I’ve created a pink and mustard yellow table featuring cattails, pomegranates, and fruit. Each place setting will have a mini pumpkin pie (because DESSERT FIRST!) and the table centerpiece will be a cheese board of cheese, crackers, and fruit. The colors are bright and cheerful, but the theme is rustic. And why spend money on a centerpiece when you can spend money on an edible centerpiece? Click here for a tutorial on how to make those gilded pomegranate place cards!
3. Clean out the fridge the day before you go shopping for Thanksgiving dinner. Dispose of the old food, wipe down all the shelves, etc., so it’s ready for turkey, pies, Christmas cookies, and Christmas dinner. I like to use Windex® Original Glass Cleaner and Windex® Original Glass Wipes when cleaning the glass shelves in my fridge. And then I add fresh paper towels to the refrigerator drawers.
4. Clean your bathrooms! My guest bathroom was just redone, so I know everyone is going to be in there critiquing it, and I want it to be spotless, so I use Scrubbing Bubbles® Toilet Cleaning Gel and Disinfectant Scrubbing Bubbles® Bathroom Cleaner.
