Are you a collector? I love collecting all sorts of things and my two most recent collections are lipsticks and sunglasses. Somehow over the last few months, I’ve accumulated SO MANY sunglasses and SO MANY lipsticks! The inside of my bathroom drawer and the top of my dresser are both getting a bit crowded, so I decided to do something about it and make a DIY Leather Catchall. My most recent sunglass acquisition? Lip sunglasses!! How much fun are these guys?
I think my lipstick and sunglass collections have grown so big because they are so simple to put on and they immediately glam up any outfit! They take a simple outfit and make it into a bold outfit! Yoga pants and a chambray shirt with sneakers? Just throw on some shades and a bold lipstick and you don’t even need makeup! Grab your keys and head out the door!
Want to make your own? Here’s the DIY Leather Catchall Tutorial:
You’re going to need the following:
- Leather (or faux leather)
- Screwback brass stud rivets
- Scissors or Pinking Shears
- Glue gun (if using faux leather)
- Paint
- Paint brush
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Awl, Hole punch, or Drill Gun and Drill Bits
Instructions:
First thing to do? Well, the first thing I did was iron my faux leather because it had HUGE creases in it. I also collect craft supplies and I already had this beautiful rose gold colored faux leather, so I pulled it out of my craft box and ironed it. Then I doubled over my faux leather and used my ruler and pencil to measure out a 12″ square on the back of the leather and cut it out using the pinking shears. Because it was doubled over, I cut out two 12″ squares at the same time. Easy. Then I flipped the two outer layers to the outside and hot glued the two pieces together. They weren’t perfect, but as my friend Emily says, “if it’s perfect, you wouldn’t know it was handmade!” So there. Then I used my drill gun and drill bits to punch holes in the corners so I could insert my brass stud rivets. If you have an awl or hole punch, I would recommend doing that, but if you’re a nitty-gritty crafter like myself, the drill gun will do just fine, just mind your fingers!
And then I had to figure out what I wanted to paint on my catch-all. I could have painted triangles, or polka dots, or simple lines, but I wanted to paint a fancy, bold face! Something for sunglasses and lipsticks! But I didn’t want to just go straight to the leather, so I practiced on some paper towels.
Which one is your favorite? I decided to go with the bottom left face and copied it as best I could onto my leather catch-all.
Boom! Dry and holding my sunglasses and lipstick!

What a great idea. Would love to have a few of these to put in my drawers as catch-alls. #client
