Nutter Butter Acorn Cookies Tutorial

I made these years ago to go on top of one of my Thanksgiving-themed milkshakes, but I’m going to make them again this year for my kids’ lunchboxes in November. My daughter is absolutely obsessed with acorns after watching the movie Totoro and seeing the squirrels scrambling around in the mornings as they store their acorn stashes. She will love these as dessert with her lunch or dinner this fall!

They’re super easy to make and you only need a few ingredients.

And you only need a few tools including:

Ready to make them?

First, slice your Nutter Butter cookies in half using a sharp knife. Set aside.

Break apart a few pretzels or pretzel sticks to make stems.

Pour some chocolate sprinkles into a bowl for dipping.

And then melt the chocolate chips in a bowl according to the instructions on the bag. I usually do the microwave method – cook for 30 seconds and then stir, repeat until melted. Once the chocolate is melted, you’re ready to make acorns!

Dip the cut end of a halved Nutter Butter cookie into the melted chocolate and then immediately dip into the chocolate sprinkles. Next, take a pretzel “stem” and dip it into the melted chocolate and then attached it to the top of the acorn – try and get it in between the two cookies so it stays.

Place onto a parchment paper or silicon mat lined baking sheet to set.

Repeat with each halved cookie until you have enough!

I originally made these Nutter Butter Acorn Cookies to top my Butter Pecan Thanksgiving Milkshakes. Aren’t they so cute garnishing the tops of these milkshakes?

I love the one in the middle on the top with the “branched stem.” That’s what you get when you use the regular pretzels instead of pretzel sticks.

Here’s the full printable tutorial. I didn’t specify any amounts because I don’t know how many cookies you want to make. But just for reference, about 1 cup of chocolate chips will be enough for dipping 18-20 cookies.
