Palm Springs Door Tour
Have you heard of doortraits? Aka portraits of doors?
The #doortraits hashtag on Instagram is full of beautiful, beautiful doors! Most are beautiful European doors, but I think the modern Palm Springs doors are just as lovely. So when we were in Palm Springs, I HAD to go find “that pink door” and then we drove through the neighborhood to find more colorful, architecturally modern, and gorgeous doors! My poor husband. About every 5 feet I would yell, “Stop! Wow! Look at THAT door!”
First up? That Pink Door! It’s like someone took a chocolate bar, dipped it in pink, and hung it on this house!
Disclaimer: Please remember that these homes are people’s private property and do not trespass on their private property, but rather, please admire from the public property of the street.
I asked my husband if we could paint our front door pink. I don’t know if he even said no, I think I just got a look. It was not a look of approval.
But this house isn’t just the pink door, there’s also a lion and gorgeous garage doors! Who votes that they paint the garage doors pink, too?!?
Plus, the owners KNOW that they have an amazing front door – so swing by their house, snap a photo in front of their door, and tag them @thatpinkdoor on Instagram!
UPDATE: In 2018, the owners posted “No Photography” signs and have asked that people stop taking photos of their front door. If you google or look at the hashtag #thatpinkdoor, you can see that influencers and advertisers have been really invasive and people will even go on their property right up to the door handle.
Again, please remember that these homes are people’s private property and do not trespass on their private property, but rather, please admire from the public property of the street.
And 3 doors down from that pink door is the house with the Party Lions! The owners like to trick out their front door lion statues with a revolving parade of pool inflatables. I happened to catch the crabs!
Here is it on another trip with different floaties:
And down the street the other direction from That Pink Door is this beauty with a beautiful turquoise chevron front door.
And since there are so many – I’m just going to throw them all up on here! If you want to go see them in person, I’ve got a FREE downloadable map at the bottom of the post. Just be sure to respect people’s private property! And remember that not all of these homes have self-aware Instagram accounts promoting their front doors.
This house has a plaque that reads “Gabor House”. The Gabors were a huge Palm Springs family; however, I couldn’t find anything during a quick online search relating the house to the Gabors. I did find this article on the Gabors though, and even though I skimmed it, there are plenty of juicy details!
Ok, back to more colorful door traits:
This one had a cute little ornamental blue fence in addition to it’s yellow Tetris-y front door!
And this one is a little hard to find, so you can send me a message for the address, but DO NOT BOTHER THE RESIDENTS!
And then this little street might have been my favorite! It’s in a neighborhood called King’s Point and the houses are so darling!
But don’t confuse darling with small. One of the houses was for sale, so I grabbed a flyer – 3B/3B with over 3,000 sq feet! What!?! They look itty-bitty from the outside! Unfortunately, they are also built on leased land (coming in at almost $12k per year) with HOA fees of over $500/month. Yeah, so I’ll keep my big blue pseudo-Victorian in Pasadena and just stare at these when I vacation in Palm Springs.
My favorite thing about this next one? The PERFECTLY COILED HOSE THAT MATCHES THE FRONT DOOR!
And if you’re looking for somewhere to stay in Palm Springs, may I suggest a hotel with some colorful doors?
First you have The Saguaro with its rainbow doors.
And then there’s The Parker with it’s orange beauty and it’s HUGE wall of breeze blocks!
But when I’m vacationing in Palm Springs, I prefer a place that’s a little more quiet and secluded, so I prefer to stay at Korakia Pensione. It also has an amazing door out front!
In the mean time, go take some doortraits!

I lived in Villa Roma Garden Homes in The Indian Canyons neighborhood, the best way to really see the wonderful Mid-Century homes is on a bike. Do not trespass, there are security cameras everywhere. Some Residents don’t want you to take picture of their house, so stay on the street. I didn’t like all the tourist, come another time & everything will be less crowded and $$$.

Hi, I love your photography so much. Would love to hang some of your shots in my living room. Do you sell the digital files? I am located in Switzerland and therefore would do the prints myself. Would love to hear back from you.
Best, anika
